Diary Entries

Diary Entry: 28/09/2017 Within this lessons, me and my media class watched the film 'The Others' where we gathered up notes whilst watching the film for different conventions and techniques. This included the basic ideas such as the setting, iconography and themes within the text. The main ideologies in the film were the dull, gloomy weather and abandoned house. I also took down important notes such as how the director implemented fear within his film with such little props and editing, he did this by playing with the darkness as that was the main aspect involved in the film. This was very helpful for me as due to the low-budget I will have to make my film, I was able to grasp some ideas as to how I can create fear and make it look realistic at the same time. Diary Entry: 10/10/2017 Whilst planning, I had to make sure everything was my final idea so I had to take longer than I thought planning the production. After taking pictures for my location the first set of photo...

Planning: Location Shots

Image
The location of my filming will take place at my house, where they will be scenes where she is waking up or has certain suspicions there is someone looking/following her within her own house. This creates a moral panic as the antagonist is invading her security from being within her home which is everyone's worse fear as that is meant to be one of the only places you can truly feel safe within. T he rest of the scenes will take place in a parking lot where more stalking will occur and just the general parts of the scene.  Practice shots I also did many practice shots and videos in preparation for my actual film production. This was during lesson when everyone was available, where me and my class went to Buckinghamshire to get some shots which were conventional, as well as learn different techniques along the way. This specific trip gave me the idea to film my actual production within Buckinghamshire and the Stowe area as I believe I could get some great shots, especially...

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts? When a film has been produced it is very common that after it has been distributed, other products will be released alongside it for marketing purposes. These products implemented straight after the film can consist of anything such as magazine covers with the film on it, magazine articles, posters, televsion press and even flyers. However, due to advanced technology within the recent years flyers have not been used as much. These are the methods used to properly advertise the film, this has been implemented as a well known strategy to build up the hype for the film as the days get closer to the release date. Larger conglomerates such as Disney would have a very large budget for marketing, this gives them the chance to advertise on a larger scale, with a variety of different advertising plans. For example, Disney is well known for partnering with Mcdonalds and putting characters from that film as the toys i...

Magazine ancillary product research

Movie Magazine Review Articles I will be researching about different movie review articles which will give me indication as to how the layout of mine will look like, as it needs to be as conventional as possible. By focusing on the format and language it will give me enough relevant information to construct an accurate representation of a conventional layout.   Within this film review from ‘Empire’ about the film ‘The Conjuring’ half of the page is filled with an image frame from the film. It is very large as it will grab the audiences attention as this dramatic shot has been denoted to attract the audience, through the characters fearful face which creates tension. Also, the iconography of the image is clear indication that the review is about a film within the horror genre, which will easily attract the correct target market. The title of the film is placed overlapping the image at the bottom of the image, the text is in white bold writing. This has been construct...

Fear in Horror films

Questionnaire I decided to ask 20 different people for this questionnaire to get reliable feedback, which will further my knowledge about the horror genre. I decided to ask younger people as they are the age group my film production will be aimed at. 1.  What age bracket do you fall under? 2.  What is your gender? 3.  Do you like older horror films or post-modern? 4.  Out of these selected genres, which do you prefer other than horror? 5.  Dismal in distress or subverted representation on women? 6.  What influences you to watch a horror film? 7.  Are you more intrigued watching a horror when real-life stories are implemented? Questionnaire results analysis: What age bracket do you fall under? Results 15-16 5 17-18 10 19-20 3 21+ 2 Majority of the people that completed the questionnaire were aged 17-18, meaning it is more likely their answers will be taken into more consideration. ...
