Horror Movie Posters There are many common conventions within a horror film poster that makes it easy for an audience to identify that it is within the horror genre when having a first glance at the poster. Lighting Within a conventional horror poster the lighting of the main image, which is normally a character or a conventional horror elements such as a haunted house the lighting is normally very dark and dim. In addition, it still may play on light by only having a few main areas of the image light so it grabs the audiences attention. With the darker image, it creates mystery and enigma which is a connotation of the horror genre. The use of lighting can be seen within the ‘Friday the 13 th ’ poster as around the centre the image is dark and dull however there is a bit of light on top of the antagonist where he can be slightly seen which could be a reflection on the narrative on how he is there, yet his identity is never revealed.
